Olde Town Business Network meets tonight

The Olde Town Business Network is meeting this evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at La Capilla Restaurant in Old Town Manassas.

Those attending are requested to bring a non-perishable food item that will be donated to the food pantry of SERVE Inc.



NVCC to host workshop for job seekers

The Woodbridge Campus of Northern Virginia Community College will host a free workshop for job seekers on Nov. 18 from 12:30 to 5 p.m.

Sponsored by SkillSource Group and Monster, the Northern Virginia Power Job Seeker Workshop will teach participants how to get back to work faster with a better job. Workshop topics include Resume Tips and Tricks, Networking, Job Hunting Strategies, Using Monster Career Tools and The Interview.

The event is free but registration is required by e-mailing your name and address to info@myskillsource.org.

Troubadours, Harmony Society to perform<p>

The Bull Run Troubadours, a barbershop chorus, and the Prince William Chapter of the Barbershop Har-mony Society, will present music honoring God and Country on Saturday at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 5640 Hoadly Road, Manassas.

There will be performances at 2 and 7 p.m.

Admission is $10 per person; seniors and students are $8.

The performance will honor those who served in past wars or are serving their country in present conflicts. A group from the Wounded Warriors at Quantico Maine Corps base is expected to attend.

Proceeds will benefit the church's kitchen fund. Refreshments will be available with a donation to the fund. For more information call 703-494-2591.

Local folks appointed to state positions

Gov. Timothy M. Kaine has announced local appointments to the following boards and commis-sions:

n Joint Leadership Council of Veterans Service Organizations: Brett P. Reistad of Manassas, who is the Virginia Law Enforcement Services Coordinator at Regional Organized Crime Information Center.

n Fair Housing Board: Angie Carrera of Manassas, partnership developer at the Fairfax County Office of Public Private Partnerships.

n Common Interest Community Board: Barry S. Lineback of Woodbridge, director of business operations at Committee for Purchase from People Who Are Blind or Severely Disabled.

n Board of Visitors, Christopher Newport University: Michael C. Martin of Manassas, president, Dudley Martin Chevrolet of Manassas.

Community Band to perform with choir


The Prince William Community Band will perform two upcoming concerts with the Woodbridge Commu-nity Choir.

The first will be Dec. 4 at Freedom High School, 15201 Neabsco Mills Road, Woodbridge, and the second Dec. 5 at Our Lady of Angels Church, 13752 Mary Way, Woodbridge.

Both concerts will be the same, just at different locations. They are free and start at 8 p.m.

Walkathon to benefit youth center


Dumfries Youth Center will host a 2009 "Walking for a Brighter Future" Walkathon on Sat-urday.

Registration begins at 8:15 p.m. and walk at 9 a.m.

The center is a non-profit organization dedicated to area youth in Eastern Prince William County with a mission to promote healthy and active lifestyles and life skills training which will motivate students, grades four to12, to become productive and active members of the society.

The goal is to have 100 walkers, with funds going to continue the ministry.

Seniors party set for Dec. 3

Registration will begin Monday for the annual Senior Citizens Holiday Celebration at the Manassas Cam-pus of Northern Virginia Community College.

The party will take place on Dec. 3 at 1:30 p.m. in the campus cafeteria. Guests will be treated to a lunch, musical entertainment and a special visit from Santa Claus.

The event is free, but reservations are required since space is limited. Seniors are requested to call 703-257-6558 to reserve no more than four spots per phone call. Early reservations will not be accepted.

Math instructor Patricia Gary, who has organized the event for 19 years, said the luncheon wouldn't be possible without the generous support the event receives from the community.

Anyone who would like to contribute should call Marya Johnson at 703-530-8243. All donations will be acknowledged in the event program.
