LETTER: Who made Willis a speaker?

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Who appointed Steve Willis as speaker for Rep. Gerry Connolly’s constituents (News & Messenger, Sept. 20)?

Except for Steve’s very small band of merry men of the very far-right wing in the county, he represents no one. Connolly was elected by the majority of voters in the 11th District to represent the rest of us
who do see a need to address health care and economic issues.

We are not much interested in the ridiculous Wilsonesque shouting matches that characterized the so-called “town meetings” across the nation. And many of us believe the hard decisions made by
President Obama have been successful in turning the economy around.

For example, the Dow Jones average has increased since Inauguration Day.

As readers will recall, this barometer of our nation’s financial health was headed towards a calamitous economic disaster at the time.

There is still a long way to go until employment is turned around, but it is clear that the Obama administration’s actions and Rep. Connolly’s votes have turned the economy in the right direction. Similarly,
health care does need to be fixed. It’s great if Steve is covered, but millions of Americans are not.
