On Sept. 18, seven Haymarket seniors from Regency at Dominion Valley competed in the swimming events of the 2009 Northern Virginia Senior Olympics at Wakefield Park in Annandale.

Regency had five women entrants.

Joyce Tobias won three gold medals for the freestyle, backstroke and half mile, plus a silver in the breaststroke.

Pat Egan won a silver medal for the breaststroke, plus bronze medals in both the freestyle and half mile.

Kay Taylor won silver medals in both the backstroke and freestyle.

Dorothy Bologna won a silver medal in the backstroke and Nancy Macks took home a bronze medal in that event.

In the men's events, Ron Wingate won a silver medal in the breaststroke and bronze in the freestyle.

Scott Triplet won gold in the freestyle.

The local swimmers were cheered on by their spouses and other Regency residents, including Nickie Ratliff, Mary Jones and Betty Ratliff, who made a large "Regency Seniors Rock" banner to proudly display during the heats.

The Regency team was the largest local group and had the most vocal cheering section. All of Regency is very proud of its winning swim team members.
