Trails, streams coalition seeks clean-up help

The Prince William Trails and Streams Coalition needs volunteers to help clean up debris below the Lake Jackson dam Saturday.

The coalition is working with the county's Park Authority and public works department to establish a public canoe launch and fishing area below the dam.

The launch area, when completed, will provide for a 9-mile paddling trip on the Occoquan River to the Bull Run Marina, or a 14-mile excursion to either the Lake Ridge Marina or Fountainhead Marina.

Clean-up work will start at 9 a.m. and end at 3 p.m. The coalition is interested in volunteers from canoeing, kayaking, fishing, scouting and other organizations that will benefit from the new public access to the water.

Volunteers should wear appropriate work clothing and shoes, and bring work gloves and their own snacks and drinks. Water will be provided.

For more information, contact Ed Dandar at efdandar@us.net or see the coalition Web site at pw trailsandstreams.com.
