I can no longer stand on the sideline and read the one-sided story about public school trailer classrooms and whether or not the Planning Commission should be conducting Public Facility Reviews. If the
matter was really only about trailers, the BOCS and the School Board would have reached agreement on this matter years ago.
The hidden agenda is that the School Board has proposed language that would allow them to build classrooms on existing schools, place trailers on school property, and build just about anything they
wanted on school property without any public review. This includes lighting and building ballfields, installing cell phone towers, etc.
It is already sad enough that the public has limited visibilty to the School Board’s actual budget. Now they want to be able to spend hundreds of millions in Virginia taxpayer dollars on an annual basis
without any public scrutiny.
Where was the press when the School Board decided to have kindergarten become e an all-day event. Not only did this cause us to double the number of teachers but we had to double the number of
classrooms. This decision with no public debate cost taxpayers in excess of $200 million in infrastructure and millions in payroll. This is just one of many policy decisions that have contributed to
overcrowding of our schools.
The time has come for Prince William County to vote and be taxed on a school budget presented by the School Board and passed by public scrutiny.
