New bus shelter to be dedicated in Lake Ridge

»  Comments | Post a Comment

A long anticipated bus shelter will be dedicated in Lake Ridge on Thursday at 10 a.m., allowing handicapped riders and others better access to the local bus system.

The bus shelter, used by OmniRide commuter and OmniLink local buses, is at the intersection of Oakwood Drive and Old Bridge Road. It was relocated from one side of the road to the other, said Potomac and Rappahannock Transportation Commission spokeswoman Christine Rodrigo.

New sidewalks have recently been added to the area, and in September, Lake Ridge resident Linda Witherel wrote to the News & Messenger's Lane Ranger column pointing out a drainage problem at the stop. Witherel said water gathered in ponds at the stop where handicapped passengers sit and wait for the bus.

Rodrigo responded and said the drainage problem developed during relocation of the bus shelter, and said the agency was working to correct the problem.

The new bus stop serves the Woodbridge/Lake Ridge OmniLink "A" loop all day, and is used during the evening to discharge passengers for the Capitol Hill OmniRide buses, as well as for some trips in the Dale City and Lake Ridge .

PRTC operates OmniRide commuter and OmniLink local buses in Prince William County, Manassas and Manassas Park.
