The Corrigan Agency Inc. of Nationwide Insurance, Manassas, recently gave away free car seats at a recent Hispanic Community Corazon event.
"We were very pleased with the turnout. We were able to help 30-plus families by providing and installing car seats for them," said Leslie Corrigan with the agency.
The agency also provided literature for safety awareness and complementary items.
"We worked with Janet Hagen with the local chapter of Birthright, All Saints Catholic Church and St. Vincent DePaul to contact families in need. Myrna Adres was the representative from Birthright at the event," Corrigan said.
"The Diverse Community Outreach Division of Nationwide Insurance led by C.F. Younger, provided the car seats."
She added that First Sgt. Ruben Castilla from the Prince William police coordinated the activities along with the Prince William Fire and Rescue proved support including supplies and seat installers/educators -- Bob Wall, John Nagel, Joy Dotson, Sarah Cooper, Katrina Collins and Joni Jaeger.
Wall and Cooper acted as the senior checkers for the event.
Ashley El-Zein from Safe Kids presented the car seat safety education seminar which explained the importance of the proper seat installation and the positioning of the child. Her presentation also included the laws involving car seat use and the correct age/weight and model of seat.
Free fire extinguishers were also provided by Nationwide Insurance and distributed to the attending families.
"It was a terrific event," Corrigan concluded.
The agency is located at 10755-A Ambassador Drive in the Ambassador Square office complex.
