» Now through Friday, Poetic art Exhibition at the Lorton Workhouse, W-16, second floor, Poetic Art is a benefit for the Yellow Ribbon Fund, a nonprofit organization created in early 2005 to assist our wounded soldiers from Iraq and Afghanistan, and their families, while they recuperate at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center and the National Naval Medical Center. This exhibition features both professional and amateur poets and artists working in collaboration to produce Poetic Art.
» Friday, 5:30 p.m., Occoquan town tree lighting ceremony, held in conjunction with the Business Guild's open house. That evening, a number of shops will remain open until 8 p.m., offering free food and drink, bargains and a $1,000 giveaway.
» Saturday, 2 p.m., join puppeteer Bob Brown for an Awesome Arctic Adventure exploring a super-secret playground, hidden at the very bottom of the world at the Chinn Park Regional Library. This is a free program for the entire family. No tickets are required. This annual program honors the memory of Ethel Harvey Georges, a local distinguished educator and retired elementary school principal.
» Saturday, 7:30 p.m., Gallery After Hours "Heavy Hitters" presents The Osedax and Special Guests at the Lorton Workhouse. Formed in 2007 and combining elements of classic southern rock with modern progressive metal, The Osedax brings a sound that is familiar in its melodies while new and inspiring in its aggression. » Monday, 7:30 p.m., Cabin Branch Quilters meet at the Lake Ridge Baptist Church, 12450 Clipper Drive, Lake Ridge.
