Congratulations to the following Battlefield High School Orchestra students who were selected to play at the Senior Regional Orchestra concert Nov. 7 at James Monroe High School in Fredericksburg.
Those chosen were Marissa Benecke, Matthew Bess, Christine Choi, Yerin Han, Christine Koo, Hoyoung Lee, Kathleen McGregor, Lemuel Park, Sydney Pinto, Jong Rhee and Zachary Windsor.
As the event program noted, "these students are the best of the best in this one quarter of Vir-ginia."
Luis Haza, well known in the Washington area, was the guest conductor.
Much thanks goes out to Katherine Thiele, Battlefield Orchestra director, for her efforts in helping to make the orchestra such a success.

'Aladdin Jr.' generates stage magic at Center for the Arts this weekend
Come meet the Genie when The Center for the Arts' Pied Piper Theatre (PPT) brings "Aladdin Jr." to the stage.
With three wishes at his command, Aladdin, played by newcomer Terrell Washington, becomes entwined in a series of magical adventures as he pursues the attentions of Princess Jasmine, portrayed by PPT veteran Maria Davis.
Experience the action as the evil Vizier Jafar, Battlefield High School junior David Johnson, works to steal the kingdom and the princess.
"Aladdin Jr." also features David Capen of Gainesville; Danielle Corley, Paul Mack, Katie and Rachel Rollins, Nicolette Smith and Nathan Yannarell of Bristow; and Carolyn Gellene and Mitchell Gillin of Haymarket.
"Aladdin Jr." will run at Osbourn Park High School, 8909 Euclid Ave., Manassas at 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 4 p.m. Sunday.

Heritage Hunt community raises $100K for cancer research
Dennis O'Malley, a Heritage Hunt resident helping to raise funds for cancer research, reported that over the past 10 years, the Heritage Hunt community in Gainesville has donated $875,000 to various cancer fighting organizations.
This year, O'Malley said, through volunteer efforts, support from Lennar Homebuilders, and generous spon-sors, the committee donated $100,000 (of the $875,000) to the Cancer Center at Lake Manassas, the American Cancer Society and the Lombardi Cancer Center at Georgetown University.
The funds have been raised through programs including Casino Night, a walk/run and a golf tournament.
