The Baker-Post Funeral Home opened its doors 115 years ago and is now the oldest continuous business in Manassas.
Established by George Baker in 1894 and passed on to his son, J. Dennis Baker, the company was sold to a corporation in 1997.
On May 15, 2007, Michael and Gina Post purchased the business back from Service Corporation International and have moved into a new funeral home.
“We can once again say the Baker-Post Funeral Home and Cremation Center is family-owned and family operated by a Manassas family,” Michael Post said.
The new facility opened at 10001 Nokesville Road, Manassas, in July 2008.
“As a full-service funeral home, our facility has been designed to accommodate any and all religious customers. We provide traditional, on-site cremations and pre-arranged services. We also provide out-of-state and international funeral arrangements. We also provide assistance with insurance papers, veteran forms, Social Security and any other paperwork.
“Today, families and friends are often separated by great distances, and it’s our goal to help everyone come together to celebrate the life of their loved one and find comfort,” he said. “ We’ve brought webcasting into our firm as the 21st century means to connect friends and families when distance separates but hearts call out for connection. Many people haven’t heard about webcasting, the newest way to bring families together.”
Post said a webcast is simply a broadcast of the service, distributed over the Internet using streaming technology. It can be viewed live and recorded so that it can be viewed online, over and over again.
With Life Tributes, the funeral home eliminates location, costs and personal circumstances as barriers to participating in the memorial or funeral services of a loved one.
“Webcasting is just one more way we continue to provide our client families with innovative ways to celebrate the lives of their loved ones,” he said.
The funeral home offers a customized animated video that uses photos of a loved one. The service is free to each family arranging a funeral through the company. Additional copies can be purchased as well.
Baker-Post is the only funeral home in Manassas which features an on-site crematorium.
“What this means to the public is simple: Your loved one will never leave our care. From the moment we become involved, we become their guardian, and we will closely supervise all stages in the cremation process. Our tasteful facility allows for family participation in the cremation, should your faith or heartfelt desire necessitate it. We also have an anteroom where washing and shrouding rituals can take place. You can put your full trust in the funeral home to honor all faiths, and all families.”
The funeral home also offers e-Aftercare — online grief counseling — as well a wide variety of online grief support sites and articles.
The funeral home is also community-minded; they are the sponsor of the Gingerbread Contest in Manassas and providing the prize money for the winning entries.
