The Hylton High School Troubadours have something to shout about this spring.

The singing group is one of only 12 schools in the country and the only one east of the Mississippi to be invited to the Chanticleer National Youth Choral Festival, which will take place from March 26 to 29 in San Francisco.

Chanticleer is a professional, world renowned singing group also know as the Orchestra of Voices.

The festival starts with a private Chanticleer performance at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. After that, the festival will entail a rigorous three days full of rehearsals, workshops, master classes and performances.

Each of the 12 groups will receive private workshops with members of Chanticleer. Topics like IPA, vocal technique and sight singing will be offered to all students.

For interested students, there will be individual feedback sessions, a solo voice master class and a small ensemble experience.

The festival will end with a combined choir finale concert. Tutti music will be provided free of charge in advance. "Shenandoah," arranged by Erb, "Ave Maria," arranged by Biebl and "Hold On -- Keep Your Hand On the Plow," by Jennings will be included.

The Troubadours have placed superior in a national competition called Heritage Festivals for the past six years, have performed for the Virginia Music Educators Association conference in 2006 and have received superior ratings at the District IX Choir Festival.

About half of them audition and participate in Prince William's All-County Honor Choir and the District IX Honor Choir and seven members are currently participating in the Senior All Virginia Chorus.

On Dec. 5 and 6 the Troubadours will be performing their Madrigal Feaste, "Reluctant Dragon," at Hylton High School. A multi-course dinner will accompany the show.
