Prince William gained 407 new jobs in the third quarter that runs between July and September, according to figures compiled and released by the Economic Development Department on Tuesday.
By comparison, the county saw 478 new jobs for the first quarter, January through March, and 599 in the second quarter, April through June.
Meanwhile, according to economic development reports presented to supervisors, "prospect activity peaked at 75 during the third quarter of 2009."
Some of the new businesses to the county: United Mine Workers of America decided to locate its international headquarters in 21,000 square feet of Quantico Gateway offices. The 119-year-old union brings an investment of $5.7 million and provides jobs for 38, according to the Economic Development Department.
Dizzy Pig BBQ, which manufactures gourmet products, brings six new jobs and a $4.5 million investment to the county.
Casework Genetics, a biotechnology company that provides "state-of-the-art human genome DNA technology to forensic science," according to Economic Development figures, brings 25 new jobs with an average annual salary of $89,000 to the county.
In addition, several existing businesses have expanded, including the veteran-owned D3 Services, Ltd., a cyber security office that grew by 10 jobs and $365,000 in investment, and the Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative. NOVEC "opened its new corporate headquarters in 12,000 square feet of space at Battlefield Overlook [and] this represents a $2.6 million investment," according to background documents to the Board of Supervisors.
On an annual comparison, the total of new jobs brought to the county in 2008 was 2,964, according to Economic Development Department figures. So far, the total in 2009 stands at 1,484.
