Manassas police have arrested three teenagers — and charges are pending against three more — in connection with a string of 17 burglaries in the city.
The break-ins all happened over the past month. Police believe the teens knocked on front doors, and if they got no answer went around back and broke out windows to get in, said city police Sgt. Tim Neumann.
Police have also several reports over the last month from people who said they heard a knock on the front door and before they could answer, heard noises out back.
The burglars stole jewelry, watches, cameras, iPods, laptops, Nintendos, Wii gaming systems and a flat-screen television. Most of the stolen property “they could carry away in a back pack,” Neumann said.
The three teens were arrested over the weekend. Charges on Monday were pending against three more.
The teens involved ranged in age from 13 to 17, with most being 16 and 17 years old, Neumann said. The 13-year-old is the brother of an older boy who was arrested, he said. Four of the six youth live in the Georgetown South community.
Two of the three arrested are being held at the Prince William Juvenile Detention Center. The other was released to his parents, Neumann said.
The burglaries occurred in the following areas: 9500 block of Battery Heights Boulevard, 10200 block of Butternut Circle, 9500 block of School Street, 10300 block of Jayeselle Drive, 9300 block of Gloxinia Way, 10100 block of Ponderosa Court, 9500 block of Vinnia Court, 10000 block of Grant Avenue, 9300 block of Waterford Drive, 8900 block of Virginia Avenue, 9600 block of Cloverhill Road, 9500 block of Oakenshaw Drive, 9500 block of Harvest Place, 8800 block of Olde Mill Run, 9000 block of Park Avenue and the 8900 block of Vicksburg Lane.
