Someone is setting fires in front of Dale City homes, and police want to know who it is.
Since June, more than 20 fires have been started mainly in the front yards of homes in the Hillendale section of Dale City. Affected areas include Hoffman and Hemingway drives, Castlebridge and Hawthorne lanes and Prince William Parkway, said Prince William police spokeswoman Erika Hernandez.
In each case, the homeowner saw the fire, called 911 and police were sent to inspect the scene. Right now, investigators have little more than that to go on.
“Through our investigation, we believe someone is deliberately setting these fires, but we do not have any information as to who is responsible,” said Hernandez.
While no one has been injured, area fire officials have been busy investigating the criminal activity.
In August, two brothers, ages 14 and 15, were arrested by Manassas fire officials and charged with manufacturing, possession and use of fire bombs and explosive materials.
Police said the two boys constructed homemade explosives and detonated them in Manassas’ Point of Woods neighborhood.
The bombs, commonly called “MacGyver” or “Work” bombs are made by combining chemicals that produce an explosive reaction and are capable of inflicting injury and causing property damage, according to a Manassas fire department spokesman.
Anyone with information on about the fires is encouraged to call Prince William County Crime Solvers at 703-670-3700.
