Events abound in county this weekend

Anyone looking for something to do this weekend shouldn’t have any trouble as many events are on tap.

The busy weekend kicks off this evening with First Friday being observed in historic Old Town Manassas. Most shops and restaurants will remain open late and some will offer refreshments and entertainment.

Other highlights include:

The 27th annual Fall Jubilee will take place in Old Town on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will feature more than 100 exhibitors, along with live entertainment, Kid’s Neighborhood, adult stage bands, food concessions, rides and games.

The 24th annual Country Fair & Auctions to benefit the at-risk children at Youth for Tomorrow will run Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 11835 Hazel Circle Drive, Bristow, and will feature a host of activities.

Visitors can travel back to the World War II era as Brentsville Courthouse Historic Centre host Allied and Axis living historians on Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event is free, and visitors can get an up-close look at what life was like for soldiers and civilians throughout the war.

Mid-Atlantic Dachshund Phest will take place at the Prince William County Fairgrounds, 10624 Dumfries Road, Manassas, on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. There will be wiener dog races, one in the morning and one in the afternoon; blessing of the animals; a Hallowiener costume contest and parade plus raffles and vendors. The cast members of Pied Piper Theatre’s upcoming production of “Aladdin” will meet visitors at the Candy Factory on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., offering face painting and refreshments.

The Manassas Chorale will present “The Fabulous Fifties!” on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the Manassas Baptist Church on Sudley Road. The group will provide an evening of popular and Broadway music from the 1950s.

Visitors can relive a time in the 1850s when Sunday was a day that families and friends gathered for church services, followed by dinner, fellowship and fun. They can experience this history first hand at Ben Lomond Historic Sites’ “Victorian Sundays” on Sunday. Call 703-367-7872 for more information.

Music lovers can come and enjoy “The Music of America” series featuring the sounds of Afro-Cuban jazz with Chris Valdala on Sunday at 2 p.m. at Bull Run Regional Library, 8051 Ashton Ave., Manassas.
