Heavy congestion on Northbound Rt. 29

CULPEPER – Northbound traffic on Route 29 in Fauquier County continues to experience significant congestion due to the investigation into an early-morning crash south of Warrenton. The backup is reported to be 1 ½ miles at this hour and anticipated to continue through the morning.

Emergency response and crash investigators remain on the scene, according to information from the Virginia Department of Transportation’s regional Traffic Operations Center. The right northbound lane will remain closed until the investigation is completed later this morning. The crash occurred at about 6:30 a.m. in the northbound lanes of Route 29 near Route 616 (Beach Road).

Motorists are advised to use alternate routes to avoid that area or postpone travel on Route 29 south of Warrenton if possible.
