Police said a South Carolina man made a bomb threat to the hotel where he was a guest on Thursday.

Police said the man, Bryan Paul Durrance, 35, of Saint Helena, S.C., used a pay phone to notify police of a bomb that he said was inside a hotel in the 16900 block of Old Stage Road in Dumfries.

Investigators were called to the scene at 3:30 a.m., where they also notified the hotel manager of the situation, said Prince William police spokeswoman Erika Hernandez.

A police K-9 unit was sent from The Provost Marshal's Office on Quantico Marine Corps base to assist in the investigation. The dog and its handler checked the hotel but found nothing, said Hernandez.

The hotel guests were not evacuated.

Durrance was charged with making the bomb threat and was released on $1,500 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 27.
