A man who witnesses said was involved in an argument with his girlfriend jumped in front of a pickup truck on U.S. 1 on Saturday about 5:30 p.m. in front of the Dumfries-Triangle Volunteer Fire Station. Police were already at the scene when the man was struck.
"It happened so fast, there wasn't really anything I could do to avoid it," said 21-year-old Everett Lee, the driver of the truck that hit the man.
The unidentified, shirtless man suffered injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening, accord-ing to a Dumfries-Triangle Volunteer Fire Department spokesman.
Police quickly put the man who was struck in handcuffs and placed him in the back of a police cruiser. It is unclear if he faces charges.
According to Lee, the man jumped in front of the truck.
The collision left a six-inch dent in the hood of Lee's older model Ford pickup that he pur-chased last month.
