On October 3, four volunteers staged a cleanup of Neabsco Creek in Andrew Leitch Park, Dale City, VA as part of the Clean Virginia Waterways effort for 2009. Although the group was small, all were enthusiastic about doing our part in cleaning a local watershed. Many people may not realize the Neabsco Creek eventually drains to the Potomac River.
Participants included the Volunteer Programs Coordinator of the Prince William County Clean Community Council, Kayne Karnbach, a mother and son team, Nancy and Danny DAtillio, and Eric Van Nortwick. They dedicated four hours on a gorgeous fall Saturday morning collecting the following:
19 bags of trash
2 tires
1 igloo water container
1 trash can lid
12 sections of re-bar of various length
1 section stairway railing
Various sections of lumber. The team broke apart a practice pitching mound made of 4x8 3/4inch ply wood covered with carpet and a section of decking; both of which were apparently dumped into the creek.
