After years of planning and construction delays, Walmart is about to reopen in Manassas Mall.
The new store will open its doors later this month. Until then, the old store is still doing business at 7412 Steam Walk Lane.
The retailer is spending the next few weeks putting the finishing touches on the new location, which will follow Walmart’s plans for future store designs.
Originally opened in Manassas in 1992, Walmart is moving in order to expand. It will carry the usual fare, plus a full line of groceries.
“We are excited about the new products and services we will be able to offer our customers,” said store manager Georgia Knepp. “We’ve been fortunate to have a loyal customer base and we look forward to providing an improved shopping experience.”
After the move, the store plans to employ about 500 workers, including 335 positions created by the relocation. Many of the newly hired employees are now reporting to work to help prepare the store for its grand opening.
Walmart is continuing to hire both full- and part-time employees to work in all areas of the new store. Interested applicants should go to the existing store or apply online at walmartstores.com/Careers/7745.aspz/.
Walmart Stores Inc. has 8,100 retail locations under 55 different banners in 15 countries. With fiscal year 2009 sales of $401 billion, the firm employs more than 2.1 million worldwide.
Walmart was founded in 1962 with the opening of the first Walmart discount store in Rogers, Ark.
