The Prince William Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is hosting its 4th Annual Pet Adopt-A-Thon and Expo on Oct. 17 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Sean T. Connaughton Community Plaza, adjacent to the McCoart Building’s County Complex in Woodbridge.

The community is invited to visit with the area’s leading rescue groups and shelters to find their next pet. The following humane organizations will have pets available for adoption: Akita Rescue Mid-Atlantic Coast Inc., All 4 the Animals Rescue, Cats Rule Feline Rescue, Collie Rescue Inc., GRREAT, Mid-Atlantic English Springer Spaniel Rescue, Oldies But Goodies Cocker Rescue, Orange County Animal Shelter, Pets Limited Rescue of Virginia, Prince William County Animal Shelter and Woodbridge Cats.

“We are thrilled to host this event, now in its fourth year,” said Melissa Korzuch, Prince William SPCA president. “Our goal is to help promote pet adoptions but also give animal lovers in the community an opportunity to spend the day doing fun activities with — and for — their pets.

“Our admission fee of a pet food donation will help stock the PWSPCA’s pet food pantry, which opened earlier this year and is always in need.”

The Pet Expo will showcase more than 20 pet-related booths from pet photographers to dog daycares. Rabies vaccinations will be offered at $12 each and pets can also be micro-chipped for $25.

Plenty of fall activities are planned, including free souvenir photos, dog cookie decorating, and a Halloween parade. Kids may enjoy a large activity area with face painting, pumpkin decorating, sand art, crafts, games and a moon bounce. There also will be food booths, contests for dogs and a charity dog walk at noon to benefit the Prince William SPCA’s Neuter Commuter.

The event will take place rain or shine. Admission is free with a pet food donation. Families and friendly dogs are welcome.
