A January federal trial date has been set for two men charged in a 2006 drug-related murder in the Manassas area.
A grand jury at U.S. District Court in Alexandria recently indicted Freddie D. Wigenton and Deshawn D. Anderson, both 20 and of the Manassas area, on federal felony charges of conspiracy to distribute crack cocaine, use of a firearm in connection with conspiracy to distribute crack cocaine and intentional killing while engaged in drug trafficking.
The indictment charges that Wigenton and Anderson killed 22-year-old Kyle Turner in the parking lot of an apart-ment building at 8901 Nicol Lane on Dec. 12, 2006.
In federal court documents, prosecutors said that Wigenton, Anderson and Annette Sprow sold more than 500 grams of crack cocaine to purchasers in the Manassas area between July and December 2006.
On Dec. 9, 2006, two other men broke into Sprow's apartment and stole an unknown amount of drugs and money.
Sprow identified Kyle Turner as one of the suspected robbers.
Prosecutors believe that Wigenton and Anderson, who were both juveniles at the time, then shot and killed Turner on Dec. 12, 2006 because "they believed [he] had stolen drugs and drug proceeds" from Sprow's apartment.
According to court documents, Turner was shot 13 times.
For her role in the drug enterprise, Sprow pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute crack cocaine and accessory after the fact. She was sentenced in February to serve 10 years in federal prison.
Wigenton and Anderson are set to stand trial at U.S. District Court in Alexandria on Jan. 19.
