The Baldwin Elementary School staff recently held a fundraiser to benefit breast cancer research.
On Oct. 12, Tina Marie Faint, owner of Creative Hair Designs and employee Mira West came to the school to put pink hair extensions in staff members’ hair for a $10 donation in support of the Pink Hair for Hope campaign.
The idea for the fundraiser started a week earlier when Heather Bezek, a kindergarten instructional assistant, went to Hair Designs to have her hair cut by West when she was asked if she wanted a pink hair extension put in her hair. Bezek eagerly said yes.
When Bezek came to work the next day, fellow staff members Sally Zabransky and Peggy Houk asked how they could get one put in.
Bezek was then asked if she would ask the employees at Hair Designs if they would come to Baldwin and put them in for the staff.
When Bezek asked Principal Ashley Cramp for permission to allow Hair Designs to come to the school, Cramp approved the visit. Bezek subsequently sent an e-mail to the Baldwin staff and the response was great.
She contacted Faint, who was willing to visit Baldwin along with West. They arrived at about 8:30 a.m. and in less than two hours had done 34 extensions, raising $340 for breast cancer research.
All donations made to the Pink Hair for Hope campaign this month will go to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
