The H1N1 vaccination clinic at Manassas Mall will be open Monday from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m.
This clinic will only be able to provide the live attenuated intranasal vaccine (LAIV) also known as FluMist. There are no plans to open the proposed clinic at the Hillendale Fire Station in Dale City.
LAIV is not appropriate for all individuals. Individuals in the following groups should not receive 2009 H1N1 LAIV: Children younger than 2 years; adults 50 years and older; pregnant women; anyone with a weakened immune system; anyone with a long-term health problem such as: heart disease, kidney or liver disease, lung disease, metabolic disease such as diabetes, asthma, anemia or other blood disorders; children younger than 5 years with asthma or one or more episodes of wheezing during the past year; anyone with certain muscle or nerve disorders (such as cerebral palsy) that can lead to breathing or swallowing problems or a history of nose bleeds; anyone in close contact with a person with a severely weakened immune system (requiring care in a protected environment, such as a bone marrow transplant unit); children or adolescents on long-term aspirin treatment; if you are moderately or severely ill, you might be advised to wait until you recover before getting the vaccine. If you have a mild cold or other illness, there is usually no need to wait.
Information regarding when clinics will open or close and the type of vaccine available will be posted on www.pwcgov.org/h1n1 and on the health department information line at 703-792-6345.
The Prince William Health Department is working closely with its community partners to make sure all individuals in priority populations will have an opportunity to receive the H1N1 vaccine.
In addition, members of the public can contact their health care provider to see if they registered to receive the vaccine and whether they have received their supply.
