Potomac Community Library will present Seth Kibel's Dixieland Quartet as part of the "Jazz: the Music of America" series sponsored by the local libraries. As a musical language of communication, jazz is the first indigenous American style to affect music in the rest of the world. Blues and ragtime, along with a rich local brass band tradition and many other influences, came together in the late teens to early 1920s in New Orleans to create a new type of music called Dixieland jazz. The name Dixieland was most likely derived from the Original Dixieland Jazz Band, a New Orleans group that made the first publicly available recording of this style of music in 1917.
Seth Kibel's Dixieland Quartet features Seth Kibel on clarinet, Brian Priebe on trombone, Phil Mathieu on banjo and Jay Miles on tuba. Kibel has appeared with such notables as Sam Moore (Sam & Dave), Percy Sledge, The Coasters and Johnnie Johnson. Refreshments will be served following the concert at Potomac Library on Nov. 8 at 2 p.m. Registration is recommended but not required.
