The Baldwin Elementary Rocket Kid Care Club, Manassas, joined with clubs from all over the world to participate in the Microfinance for Kids and Feed the Hungry projects during the 10th annual Kids Care Week that ended Saturday.
The United Nation estimates that 2 billion to 3 billion people are malnourished. In America more than 36 million, including 12.4 million children, are at risk of hunger, according to the USDA.
The Baldwin students will make "Shrinky Dink" jewelry and sell it to help Heifer International. The club goal is to purchase animals to help villages support themselves.

Thanks to the support of Quaker Oats, the sponsor of Kids Care Week, clubs around the world are creating service projects and raising funds to comb at this issue and feed the hungry.
The Baldwin club is one of more than 1,800 units. Since 1990, Kids Care Clubs have been developing compassion and inspiring a spirit of service in elementary and middle school children.
The economic downturn has increased sharply the number of families across the country in need of food and students like those at Baldwin are given an opportunity to take action against this pressing social need.
