I am disappointed that this paper endorsed John Bell in the 13th over Del. Bob Marshall. The paper’s position that Bob needs to be more “influential” with the leadership is contrary to his long-standing
record as a delegate.
The News & Messenger should note Bob’s record demonstrates his opposition to the “powers that be” when necessary as a continued voice of reason. An example is when he sued to stop the
unconstitutional taxing scheme that allowed unelected bodies to raise taxes for roads; he won in the Virginia Supreme Court 7-0. I suggest the News & Messenger base its opinion on FACT.
I suggest the News & Messenger examine the facts of Bob’s long-standing demonstrated record of tangible accomplishments in Virginia state government as a senior state delegate, and his value as a
principled politician and voice of Virginia that consistently supports the people. Some examples are: Bob’s opposition to the gas tax; Bob’s taking a no tax pledge; Bob’s supporting campaign finance
reform; Bob’s opposing Virginia’s budget being balanced with stimulus money borrowed from foreign dictators that may represent a convenient near-term view but would only serve to place our children
and future generations recklessly in overwhelming debt.
Bob continues to be a man of the people, known, knowledgeable, accessible, honest, and unwavering in his commitment to We the People of Virginia.
