A teen summit — “Helping Hands: Reaching Out to the Future” — is planned for Sept. 12 at Freedom High School in Woodbridge.
The purpose of the event is to provide information to the youth and young adults that will make a positive impact on the quality of their lives.
Topics will include:
- Dating and domestic violence
- Depression and suicide prevention
- Health/obesity/nutrition
- Sexual health and wellness
Special features will include an attendance competition with the school with the highest number of participants getting the grand prize (an autographed jersey from Chris Cooley), light snacks and lunch provided, special guest appearances, door prizes and a separate parents’ symposium beginning at 9 a.m.
Justine Lovel, director of community affairs at WPGC radio, will be a motivational speaker. The Harvest Life Changers Praise Dance Team and Star of Bethlehem Step Team will perform.
The summit will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is hosted by the Prince William County branch of the NAACP and Christian Involved Together with Youth Inc. Small group sessions will be conducted for youth ages 12-19.
