Maybe the smell of fresh pizza and chicken wings helped a police dog find his suspects.
A pizza deliveryman was attacked just after midnight Wednesday with a Taser, in the 18100 block of Kilmer Lane in Dumfries for his pizza and wings.
The two men who are accused of attacking the deliveryman apparently wanted his pizza and wings, but the victim fought back, said Prince William police spokeswoman Erika Hernandez.
During the scuffle, one of the attackers tried to use a Taser on the deliveryman, but the Taser didn’t work and the victim was not injured, Hernandez said.
The two men eventually made off with the pizza and chicken wings.
Police set up a search perimeter, where Officer K.L. Jennings and his K-9 partner, Diesel, tracked the pizza thieves to a nearby apartment, said Hernandez.
Police found the door partially opened and Jennings noticed the victim’s pizza delivery case on the apartment floor.
Diesel then led Jennings to 18154 Kilmer Lane, where they found one of the suspects believed to be involved in the robbery hiding, said Hernandez.
He was indentified as 21-year-old Arthur Lee Roberts of 18140 Kilmer Lane Apt. 3, and was charged with armed robbery and conspiracy to commit a felony.
Another police detective saw the second suspect enter a home at 3604 Jurgensen Drive. He was identified as 21-year-old Maurice Deonte Bailey, of 18154 Kilmer Lane, Apt. 102.
Detectives got a search warrant, searched the home and arrested Bailey.
He was also charged with armed robbery and conspiracy to commit a felony.
Both men were held without bond and are scheduled to appear in court Oct. 20.
An investigation into the residents of the apartment where the pizza delivery case was found is ongoing, said Hernandez.
It is not clear if the two men ate the pizza or the wings.
