Police on Tuesday charged a Dale City man with raping a 12-year-old girl.
Officers were called to a home on Fairfield Lane at 2:30 a.m. to investigate a domestic dispute. While there, they learned a girl had been raped by a family member, said Prince William police spokeswoman Erika Hernandez.
Timoteo Diaz, 37, was charged with rape, Hernandez said.
Diaz is no stranger to police. Three years ago, he was charged in Prince William with assaulting a police officer, eluding a police officer and felony hit and run, according to court records.
Diaz appeared in court on the charges in February, but the disposition wasn’t available.
For his most recent charge of rape, he is scheduled to appear in Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court.
The number of rape cases has risen sharply this year in Prince William County.
There were 14 reported rapes in the county this year, between April and June. In 2008, only three rapes were reported during the same time period, according to police crime statistics.
All told, there have been at least 30 reported rapes in the county this year versus at total of six in 2008.
