Dale City Lions and the Dale City Leo Club at Gar-Field will hold another Used Stuff Sale at the school on Sept. 19 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Spaces are available for $15 each. To reserve your space call Eric Nelson at 703-492-9355 or Dave Carr at 703-590-2099. They hope to draw a record crowd. The Lions will also have the Screening Van on location, offering free sight and hearing screening. If you have nothing to sell, drop by and take advantage of the free screenings and see what bargains await you. If you have any old eye glasses you no longer need, bring them to recycle. All proceeds from the sale go to the Lions' charities in the community. So mark you calendar, that's next Saturday at Gar-Field.
National Preparedness Month
This is National Preparedness Month sponsored by Federal Emergency Management, Ready.gov and Citizen Corps. This year's theme -- "Are You Ready or Are You Ready?" -- focuses on changing perceptions about emergency preparedness and helping all Americans truly understand what that means. It means having an emergency preparedness kit with water, food, medications and other essentials to last your entire family for at least three days, having battery powered radios with weather band and extra batteries on hand, having an escape plan with one to two meeting places and having neighbors or friends who can check on you in the event of a disaster. All of these tips are extremely important for families to know. Use this month to become prepared. Protect your family and your loved ones and neighbors.
Fun family event is today
Head out to Prince William Forest Park for the Heritage Festival. Today from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. the park celebrates its history as a Colonial farmland, Civilian Conservation Corps and WWII spy training camp. Musicians, exhibitors, cultural demos and an antique car show will be there.
Happy Birthday to my son Joe, who celebrates on Monday.
