Manassas Midwifery & Women’s Health Center is conducting an open house Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 8424 Dorsey Circle, Suite 101, Manassas.
“We’re hosting an open house to introduce our new midwifery practice to the local community and learn more about the community’s needs in an informal setting,” said certified nurse midwife Shelia L.
Mathis, who opened her doors for gynecological examinations such as pap smears, breast exams and treatment of minor gynecological problems, as well as prenatal care, on Aug. 3.
Currently, the center’s mothers will deliver their babies in hospitals. They will be attended by Dr. Micheal Liao and Dr. Eugene Louis-Ng, who has been recognized as one of Washingtonian
Magazine’s “Top Docs” in 2005 and 2008.
Mathis and her husband, the Rev. Derrick Mathis, envision the center as “honoring God’s call to care for others, providing access for all women to affordable, holistic health care services, and
strengthening families and community with community-based collaborative care.”
The open house will offer information about prenatal and gynecological care, doula support before, during and after childbirth; the Centering Pregnancy approach that helps mothers take ownership of the
pregnancy and make informed choices; counseling, educational services; training and precepting student midwives.
The center is located in the Sudley Park Professional Center business plaza across from Prince William Hospital.
