LETTER: Don't tread on me, Connolly

»  Comments | Post a Comment

First of all, I want to thank Honorable Gerald Connolly for his public service. While I might not agree with his political views I do appreciate his commitment to serving.

I have called and e-mailed trying to figure out if he plans on “representing” the constitutes in his district or does he plan on continuing to vote along party lines against the wishes of those of us that are
increasingly concerned about the ever expanding size and scope of our federal government?

I am convinced that we are at a crossroads in this country that has more to do with Republic vs. Socialism and not Republican vs. Democrats. I think this has less to do with our president and more to do
with overall government arrogance, abuse and corruption.

Does he really believe that his constituents wanted to bailout Wall Street? What about the automotive industry? Doesn’t he realize that his constituents are smarter than handing over billions to the
floundering and union controlled automotive industry? Since when did our elected officials have the authority to authorize handing over $4,000 to my neighbor for trading in a car?

His constituents have been crystal clear that they do not want the federal government to get into the health care provider or insurance business, yet he continues to support this position.

Instead of hiding behind your desk maybe you ought to have thought about making yourself available in a truly open town hall environment like many of your peers. The fact that you have elected to duck
and run says a great deal about the squeeze you must be feeling between political party pressures and doing what your constituents are demanding that you do. I take great comfort in KNOWING that
you are a one-term “ruler” and I look forward to helping to get our next “representative” elected.
