In my letter on health care, which was published on Sept. 14, I made reference to VA hospitals. This was somehow interpreted to mean Virginia hospitals.
I do not know if the Commonwealth of Virginia has any hospitals or not. I was referring to those hospitals run by the U. S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). They, along with the hospitals run by the
Department of Defense, are proof-positive that the U.S. government can provide quality health care and has been doing it for years.
Government care is, in fact, in many ways superior to that provided by private hospitals. For example, all military and veterans’ records are now computerized, and can be accessed nationwide.
Moreover, advanced techniques for treating head trauma were developed by Army field hospitals in Iraq and at Walter Reed Army Medical Center.
