VRE changes coming Oct. 1
Get ready for changes on the Manassas and Fredericksburg Virginia Railway Express lines starting Oct. 1.
Fredericksburg train 307’s schedule will be adjusted, forcing the train to leave the Fredericksburg station five minutes earlier. Train 331 on the Manassas line will leave the Broad Run station five minutes later every morning.
The schedule adjustments were made as a new state-funded Amtrak train begins service from Lynchburg to Washington that morning. New schedules can be found at the rail agency’s Web site, vre.org.
Win free rides, prizes during transit week
As the second annual Try Transit Week kicks off this week in Virginia, you could win a year’s worth of free transit rides.
Riders are asked to come into the lobby at the Potomac and Rappahannock Transportation Commission in Woodbridge and pledge to ride the bus. Entries must be received by the Virginia office of Rail and Public Transportation by 11 p.m. Friday, according to a PRTC press release.
Drivers have been asked to eliminate or reduce using their cars on Tuesday as part of Car Free DC. You can log onto carfreemetrodc.com for more information and to win an iPod and other prizes.
Bus agency launches e-mail notification
The PRTC launched its new Rider Express e-mail notification system last week. The system enables riders to customize the messages they receive about service changes, delays or upcoming events at PRTC.
Users can now choose to be informed by text messages and can choose which specific routes they want to know more about. They can also choose to receive the messages during certain hours, sign up for a newsletter and suspend messages when they are not using the bus system, according to a press release.
To sign up, visit prtctransit.org.
