There are only two more chances to get your fresh produce this year in the Dumfries area; this Saturday and the last one, Oct. 10, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 3890 Cameron St. in Dumfries (off U.S. 1, at the corner of Washington and Cameron streets). After you stock up on fresh produce, take time to shop at the various booths. The market will take place rain or shine. For more information, please call 703-221-7440 or 2880.

Prince William Forest Park

Fall is slowly creeping in, and there is no better time to enjoy programs around the campfire at Prince William Forest Park. Join Ranger Eric on Saturday evening for “Can You Hear Me Now?” — a fun program that explores animal senses. It begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Oak Ridge Campground.

Can’t make it down to the Park? Take a walk through park history at its Virtual Museum Exhibit. Stop and look at the artifacts and photographs that tell stories of the people who lived on and shaped this remarkable landscape. Visit the Web site for more information: www.nps. gov/prwi.

National Public Lands Day is the nation’s largest hands-on volunteer effort to improve and enhance the public lands Americans enjoy. This one-day event invites individuals and groups to join an effort to work on volunteer projects within Prince William Forest Park. Projects include cabin repair, trail maintenance, tree planting, etc. Volunteers will work alongside rangers and park personnel making improvements and major contributions to the natural and cultural resources of the park.

The event will take place at Cabin Camp 4 (Camp Pleasant), which is located off Va. 234 on Pleasant Road. A light breakfast and registration will begin at 9 a.m. Work will take place until noon, ending with a pizza lunch. The event will take place rain or shine. Large groups and people of all ages are welcome.

Volunteers should bring water, sunscreen, gloves, hats and sturdy shoes.

To sign-up as a volunteer and join in the fun, contact jenn_kays@ nps.gov. For more information on National Public Lands Day, visit www.pub liclandsday.org.

There will also be a sneak preview of “National Parks: America’s Best Idea.” The full six-part, 12-hour series will begin airing on PBS stations nationwide Sunday. Contact the park for details of this showing at 703-221-7181.
