I usually do not like to write campaign-related letters this early, but the developing “flare-up” in the race for delegate in the 51st District, my home district, has compelled me to do so.
Our biggest issue is, no question, the transportation crisis. Del. Paul Nichols has stepped up as one of the local leaders in the push to bring the Metro system down into Woodbridge. When, and not if,
this happens, it will do many things.
It will provide jobs for people right here in Prince William County. It will help clean up the environment by reducing the auto emissions on Interstate 95. It will allow people the option of taking transit to work
and not get caught in traffic all the time. Nichols’ opponent in this race, Rich Anderson, lists as his own transportation ideas “get PWC’s fair share of funding.”
Well, we have representatives in the Assembly who have been there years longer, and they have not shown a willingness to do so.
Why is Mr. Anderson any different? Mr. Anderson has also chosen to resort to dirty tactics by questioning Mr. Nichols’ commitment to public safety. Do you really believe that Mr. Nichols is not a friend
to public safety?
Furthermore, I have read comments from people who imply that Mr. Anderson is the best candidate because he was in the military. Does that mean that Mr. Nichols is un-American, and therefore
unqualified for office? I do not think so.
Paul Nichols has only been in office for two years, and already has a tremendous record of fighting for the average citizen. I hope all of you truly see that. I will enthusiastically support the re-election of
Paul Nichols on election day, and hope all of you will do the same. Paul Nichols cares about the citizens of this district. Rich Anderson will just take the party line and make things worse for PWC and
the state.
