Percussionist Luis Garay will perform at the Library on Sept. 27 at 2 p.m. as part of the ongoing series, "Jazz, The Music of America." He was born in Cordoba, Argentina, and is director of Luis Garay Percussion World Ensemble. He is also adjunct percussion faculty at Catholic University and director and founder of the Lion Drum-mers World Percussion Seminar. He is on the faculty of St. Albans School and National Cathedral School in Wash-ington. During his 30-year career as a classical, jazz and Afro-Latin muti-percussionist, he has performed through-out the Americas and Europe. Light refreshments will be available after the concert. n Children and their families can create a special fall craft -- a Happy Fall Y'All Banner -- at the library Saturday at 2 p.m. This is a wonderful opportunity for quality family time and sharing and is a free drop-in program for the first 50 children. No registration is required and each child may create one craft.
n Bill Jenkins will lead a 100 percent audience participation event with percussion for everyone to play along. Enjoy Hispanic American Month with this talented musician and his many instruments as you try playing maracas, scrap-ers, bongo and conga drums and many more percussion instruments in this fast-paced, hands-on program on Sept. 27 at 2 p.m. at the library. This is a free, drop-in program and no tickets or registration is required.
n The NOVA Novel Book Club will discuss Brunonia Barry's debut novel, The Lace Reader on Sept. 29 at 7:30 p.m. at the Library. Tower Whitney, the narrator of The Lace Reader, hails from a family of Salem women who can read the future in the patterns of lace.
