Ben Lomond Historic Site was named one of the top 65 Historic Sites to visit in Virginia by the American Heritage Magazine in its fall 2009 edition. It shares top honors with other historic sites in Virginia including Arlington National Cemetery, Carlyle House, Mount Vernon, the National Museum of the Marine Corps and Manassas National Battlefield.
Ben Lomond is maintained and managed by the Historic Preservation Division of the Department of Public Works. There are a number of historic treasures at Ben Lomond including the 19th-Century Farmhouse, outbuildings and rose garden. The house was used as a hospital during the Civil War. Tours are available on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays through October, or by appointment. The tour charge is $2 per person.
There are a number of special programs coming up as well. Among them are Victorian Sundays on Oct. 4 and 25, Haunted Ben Lomond tours Oct. 24, and a visit from Santa on Dec. 12 and 13. Call for fee schedules to participate in these special events.
