The Regency Women’s Club awarded three scholarships to area students during their June 3 dinner meeting.
All of the scholarship recipients will attend Northern Virginia Community College.
Two Battlefield High School graduates were chosen to receive the scholarships based on their high academic achievement, financial need, and their desire to study at NVCC.
Raine Petrella, who plans to study biological sciences, and Joseph Hillhouse, who plans to study information technology, each received $2,500 scholarships.
The third $2,500 scholarship went to Sophia Gizaw, who also demonstrated high academic achievement and financial need and is currently a nursing student at the college.
Petrella and Hillhouse were chosen by the high school’s guidance counselors. Gizaw was selected by Bonnie Idle, coordinator for Northern Virginia Community College scholarships, using the criteria specified by the club’s community service committee.
Fundraising efforts by the club, comprised of residents of the Regency at Dominion Valley community, provide the money for the annual scholarships.
