MANASSAS, Va. - The Virginia Wing, Civil Air Patrol (CAP), has announced the promotion of Prince William Composite Squadron Commander Nelson Alcalde to captain. The promotion was effective July 27.
Alcalde has been active with CAP since 1998 and has served in several capacities, including public affairs officer; deputy commander for seniors; and special projects officer before being appointed squadron commander on July 14, 2009.
Apart from CAP activities, he is a local businessman and is no stranger to public service with 13 years of experience in the civilian public sector working as a congressional aide and as a senior executive presidential appointee at the General Services Administration and the White House.
Alcalde is also a private pilot with instrument and multi-engine ratings and has more than 1,500 hours of flight experience.
