MANASSAS, Va. -- City police have charged a McLean man with robbing a CVS in Manassas early Sunday.

Police say the robber walked into the pharmacy at 9200 Centreville Road at 2:45 a.m., indicated he had a gun and handed the pharmacist a note demanding the powerful painkiller Oxycontin.

During the heist, the pharmacist was able to whisper to a customer to call police.

The robber got a bottle of pills and left the store, but was confronted by police in the parking lot.

Jonathan Ross Carlton, 23, of 1244 Pine Hill Road in McLean was charged with robbery, said Manassas police Sgt. Tim Neumann.

Police say he did not have gun.

Carlton is being held without bond and is scheduled to appear in court Sept. 30.
