A man armed with a large stick robbed a store on Liberia Avenue early Tuesday morning, Manassas police said.
The clerk of the Super Market, at 8680 Liberia Ave., told police that he opened the store at 6:35 a.m. Tuesday. Five minutes later, a man “carrying a large stick as a weapon” entered the store, said Manassas police Sgt. Tim Neumann.
The man swung the stick at the clerk and told him to get down on the floor, Neumann said.
The clerk told police he picked up a ball peen hammer and backed into a corner behind the store counter.
The robber swung the stick repeatedly, trying to hit the clerk, police said. The man then jumped over the counter, grabbed the clerk and threw him to the ground, striking him in the face several times, Neumann said.
The robber then grabbed an undisclosed amount of money from the counter and ran out the back door of the store.
The robber is described as a man, between 5 feet 4 inches and 5 feet 7 inches tall, wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans, white gloves and a white scarf or bandana over his face.
Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call Manassas City Crime Solvers at 703-330-0330. Manassas City Crime Solvers will pay a cash reward of up to $1,000 for information that leads to an arrest.
