Manassas, Va. -- Paintings by Rosemary Gallick are on display until March 3 at Northern Virginia Community College's Manassas Campus.
"Working on the Dream" features black celebrities and political figures in honor of Black History Month.
The exhibition includes paintings of President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama, as well as musicians Tina Turner, Aretha Franklin, Lenny Kravitz and Jimi Hendrix.
"Each portrait attempts to reveal the essence of the icon's personality and character," Gallick said. "Some of the faces reveal a calm, somber exterior while others display a vibrancy and dynamism."
Gallick's artwork has been exhibited extensively throughout the United States. She has also published numerous articles and given many presentations on art and popular culture.
Gallick lives in Centreville and teaches art history at Northern Virginia Community College. She holds a master's degree in fine arts from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, N. Y. and a master's degree in communication from Cornell University.
Her exhibit will be in the Colgan Hall Gallery, which is open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Fridays. Admission is free.
