I am writing about the lack of adequate snow removal in my neighborhood despite a rather insignificant snowfall compared to what we had in December 2009, just before Christmas.
I live on Kingswell Drive in Dale City and have lived here for 23 years. Kingswell is an approximately half-mile long road that connects at two points with Kerrydale Road. It also has several "feeder" streets that connect to it.
Check your map and you'll see that this area is not a small location and has many residents and cars. However, it never gets adequately plowed and treated. I have only seen it happen once in 23 years and that was after I personally spoke with the former head of the Lake Ridge VDOT office and the guy actually responded! This was many years ago and he's probably since retired or been promoted because we've gotten bad service since!
He did tell me that the VDOT guidelines indicated that Kerrydale Road is the only one that receives priority. Well, that needs to be changed but I don't think anyone at VDOT even cares!
This morning, Feb. 1, I drove out and "surveyed" the area. Nothing back here has been done, however, another section of my neighborhood that is intersected by Kenwood Drive (feeds into Kerrydale Road from the Prince William Parkway) not only was cleared, but so were all the smaller side streets, even cul-de-sacs!
I saw far better service back in the 50s and 60s in Manassas than I've ever seen here! All this tells me is that VDOT doesn't know what they're doing! I can (and have) used a shovel and have cleaned my 40-foot street front to the point that when the sun comes out, it melts the rest. I have bare pavement! In ending, if anyone else in Dale City is experiencing what we are here in Kerrydale, let your voice be heard and contact VDOT, your county supervisor and/or wait until the next election!
