Well, we made it through another week of snow here in Dumfries and it looks like we will be getting hit pretty hard Friday and Saturday. I hope everyone has his supplies on hand; if not, maybe you should make a run for the store today! Anyway here's some information that should be of some interest to a few of you out there.
Washington's birthday
If you are looking for a great family activity over the long weekend, check out George Washington's Birthday Celebration at Ferry Farm on Feb. 15. At 9 a.m. join Gen. Washington for breakfast at the farm where he grew up. Learn about camp life at Valley Forge and how growing up at Ferry Farm prepared him to help his troops endure that bleak winter. Have your picture taken with Gen. Washington. Party favors for all!
Enter your name to win a door prize. This event is appropriate for ages 5 and up (children must be accompanied by an adult). Space is limited, so sign up early. The fee is $12 per person (no discounts apply) and reservations are required. Please call Vickie Hayes at 540-370-0732, Ext. 24.
George Washington's boy-hood home at Ferry Farm is along the Rappahannock River in southern Stafford County at 268 Kings Highway in Fredericksburg.
Show is back
For those of you that didn't make it to the opening weekend, here's another chance to see Pied Piper Theatre's production of Disney's "Geppetto & Son," it has been rescheduled for Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 4 p.m., hopefully they won't be snowed out.
Disney's "Geppetto & Son" is at Gar-Field High School. Tickets are $8 in advance at Music & Arts Center outlets or online at www.center-for-the-arts.org. Tickets can be purchased at the door for $9. Group tickets are also available for scouts, church groups and other organizations by calling the Center for the Arts at 703-330-ARTS.
