A Nokesville woman was taken to a hospital after her car collided with a Prince William County fire engine Tuesday.

The driver, Joan Stribling Steele, 65, of 13110 Nokesville Road, collided with the fire truck at the intersection of Nokesville Road and Fitzwater Drive after she ignored a stop light, said Prince William police spokeswoman Erika Hernandez.

The fire engine was traveling south on Nokesville Road and was crossing the intersection when the crash occurred.

She suffered minor injuries in the crash, was charged with disregarding a red light and was released on a summons. Steele is expected to appear in court March 3.

The 37-year-old driver of the fire engine was also taken to a hospital as a precaution. His condition was not released.

The county's fire and rescue department did not return a request for comment on this story.
