LETTER: An energy and money saving tip

»  Comments | Post a Comment

I've noticed many gas yard lights in the Lake Ridge area that are not working or are barely working. Washington Gas bills gas lights at a fixed usage of 1,800 cubic feet of gas per month.

People may be surprised to know that this works out to about 20 to 30 dollars a month. Check your next monthly bill -- it will state if your light is being billed as stated. A lot of gas is obviously being vented directly into the air.

It's a two-step process: Have the gas turned off and have it removed from your bill. And be forewarned, it may take a little effort in the telephone skills department. And, there are kits to convert the things to electric -- a really good application for compact fluorescent light bulbs.
