As Manassas school officials work to find temporary classroom space for Mayfield Intermediate School students, there's one other thing they need: school supplies.
Manassas school officials Sunday asked Mayfield parents to help provide supplies for their students.
Supplies can be dropped off at the Boys and Girls Club, 9501 Dean Drive, Manassas.
Mayfield officials said they need packets of wide-ruled notebook paper, safety scissors, glue sticks, highlighters, blue or black pens, red pens, No. 2 pencils, large erasers, colored pencils, tissues, pencil boxes, hand sanitizer and milk crates.
School officials are also accepting donations of gift cards to places such as Borders, Barnes & Noble and Staples. To make a donation, contact Maureen Arvai at www.manassas.k12.va.us/mayfield then find and click on "For supply donation information."
Sunday afternoon, school officials held a meeting for Mayfield parents and students to discuss plans for the 1,000 fifth- and sixth-graders who attend the school.
Last week, Superintendent Gail Pope said tentative plans would have sixth-grade students attending classes at the old Marstellar Middle school and fifth-graders either in several city elementary schools or in classrooms at the Manassas Assembly of God Church.
Mayfield was closed after heavy snow on the roof caused damage to the ceilings and at least one wall in the school.
Manassas school officials hope to have the Mayfield students in temporary classrooms starting Feb. 22. The Mayfield students will not attend school this week.
