MANASSAS, Va. -- A Manassas school teacher is being held without bond on charges he sexually assaulted a 16-year-old student.
Kevin Garfield Ricks, 49, of Federalsburg, Md., is an English teacher at Osbourn High School.
He was arrested at the end of the school day Thursday and is charged with carnal knowledge, aggravated sexual assault and two counts of indecent liberties with a minor, said Manassas police Sgt. Tim Neumann.
Police said the offenses took place at a home in Manassas in December and January.
Police said Ricks stayed in the Manassas area during the week and traveled home to Federalsburg on weekends.
The victim told police about the assaults Tuesday, prompting an investigation, said Neumann.
Following Ricks’ arrest, Osbourn High School Principal John J. Conti sent a letter informing parents that Ricks is suspended from teaching at the school, of his charges and stated Ricks would not be allowed onto the grounds of any Manassas public school.
“Given the nature of Mr. Ricks’ charges and classroom responsibilities, counselors will be available to speak with and support students impacted by this event,” stated Conti.
Ricks is scheduled to appear in Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court.
